Having your carpet cleaned does not have to be the stressful occasion you think it is. Whether you have just found out that you’re mother-in-law will be coming to town in the next few days, you are holding a big birthday party, or you are selling your home, you definitely do not have to worry about the company you choose when you follow the tips below.

1) Qualifications.

Choose a company that is either listed with the Better Business Bureau or your local Chamber of Commerce. To be listed with the BBB, a company has to have a) a dispute system in place and b) an on-line database of complaints received. Companies that have a shoddy reputation will have no interest in being members of the BBB or the Chamber of Commerce, as all of their complaints and disputes will come to light.

2) Certification.

A good carpet cleaning company will be registered with the IICRC, the Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification. This means the company has employees that are specifically trained in cleaning and restoration. Most employees will carry a card stating they are IICRC registered. IICRC companies ensure quality in all of their tasks.

3) Recommendations.

Ask the company if they have anyone you can contact for recommendations, or check their website. Don’t totally base your choice on recommendations (especially from websites), as there are shady people out there that may fabricate the recommendations.

4) Questions.

Always ask what type of cleaning method the company uses to clean the carpets. The only way you should accept is hot water extraction (steam), as that is the only method that carpet maker’s warranties’ honour to meet professional cleaning. Also ask if they use drying fans and how quickly the carpets will be dry. What type of equipment do they use?

5) Estimate.

Call the company to come in for an estimate. Note if the employees are in a uniform, whether they are friendly and if you feel comfortable with them or not. Also look to see if the vehicle they have brought to your home is in good condition and clean. If you do not feel comfortable or something feels off about the meeting, go ahead and try another company for an estimate.

These questions and tips will help you choose a qualified carpet cleaning company for your home. You will not only get your carpets cleaned, you will know that they have been done properly and under your carpets warranty.
